Victoria, BC ~ The Victoria Grizzlies are ecstatic to announce the signing of 2005 born goaltender Jason Cai
Jason, from Basking Ridge, New Jersey, joins the Grizzlies after an impressive year with the New Jersey Rockets U18 AAA squad where he posted a 36-13-0 record with a 2.59 GAA and .915 SV%
“I am pumped. There isn’t much else to say. I am excited to see what I can do to help replicate last year’s playoff success and push towards a championship,” said Cai
Jason was also Delbarton School’s “Boys Ice Hockey Player of the Year” in the 2022-23 season after holding a minimalistic .931 save percentage. “I am a mentally strong, consistent, composed goaltender who likes to play the puck while making the saves I need to,” Cai continued.
Jason joins Oliver Auyeung-Ashton in the Grizzlies net for the upcoming year. Oli, as Auyeung-Ashton has been lovingly labelled as during his first two years in Victoria, returns to the Grizzlies for a 3rd season in the Black and Gold. This season he will form a dynamic duo with Jason. “I know Oli is a stud,” said Cai when asked about partnering with OAA, “I have already talked to him a bit and I can’t wait to play with him.”
Cai also holds a friendly connection with the Grizzlies. He is from the same area as 2023-24 Grizzlies leading scorer and returning forward; Chase Pirtle. “He vouched for me,” said Cai when asked about their relationship, “You always want to play with your friends and he has nothing but good things to say about the city and organization.” The two New Jersey boys played together with both the New Jersey Colonials U13/14 teams but at Delbarton School as well.
Welcome to Bear Country Jason!
