Grizzlies Knock Off Kings In Preseason Action

Victoria, BC ~ The Victoria Grizzlies defeated the Powell River Kings on Sunday afternoon from the Q Centre to close out their pre season with a 5-4 victory

 

For the second night in a row it was the Grizzlies opening the scoring in the first 10 minutes. as Drew Hockley took a pass from Jordan Ramsay and fired one top right to stake the home squad to the early lead. Powell River would tie the game at 10:21 as Michael Mardula found himself below the goal line and banked in shot off the back of Grizzly goaltender Jason Cai.

 

The second period was a goal filled frame as Victoria scored thanks to powerplay markers from both; Alex Hebblethwaite and Tobias Pitka. Ryan Watt also netted a marker in the second period on a feed from Tom Molson. Jaxon Fuder had a powerplay goal for the Kings leaving the game at a 4-2 score line for Victoria after 40 minutes.

 

Victoria opened the third period with another goal due to a Tom Molson tally. Powell River would mount a late comeback after goals from both Max Jelavic and Marek Beaudoin in the final five minutes but they would come up just short.

 

Victoria will kick off the regular season on Friday and Saturday night from the Hap Parker Arena in Powell River. Their first home game is on September 27th when they play host to the Alberni Valley Bulldogs in the “Grizzlies Home Opener presented by Chilly Ones”.
